Bee Healthy This Winter - Use Propolis to Treat Colds, Flu and Sore Throat

Bee healthy this Winter! Propolis is a brown waxy substance that bees use to seal and keep their hives germ free. It tastes a little like honey but best of all, is a very powerful antibiotic, virus killer and anti-fungal that has been used safely for hundreds of years.

Research is confirming what herbals and traditional medicine practitioners have always known, propolis is effective against a wide variety of bugs (including cold and flu viruses) and because it is a natural anti-inflammatory, it may also relieve the pain of certain types of arthritis.

In a study of schoolchildren, liquid propolis extract was found to be effective in reducing the incidence and intensity of nose and throat infections. Other experiments have found propolis to be effective against herpes, HIV and fungal conditions as well as gingivitis (gum disease).

Being a traditional medicine it is generally considered very safe with no reported adverse reactions. However, if you are allergic to honey or bee products (such as Royal Jelly), you would be advised not to take propolis unless you first obtain professional advice.
