David Neiger Qualified Naturopath, Nutritionist, Herbalist and Remedial Massuer
In my clinical experience there are many factors which contribute to weight gain including;
Stress hormones block insulin and cause people to eat more. If you are stressed you may find it harder to reduce your food intake (because you chew on food to relax you) and then become even more stressed because of your weight! Once you manage you stress or learn how to deal with it, losing weight become easier. Depending upon your weight distribution, your weight gain may be caused by hormonal imbalances. This particularly affects women around menopause or after child-birth. If your hormones are out of balance you will find it very difficult to maintain a healthy weight. Once your hormones are balanced using herbal medicine or kinesiology the excess weight will often drop off by itself. Fat needs to be metabolised by the liver. If your liver is not working properly then fat (including your body’s own fat stores) cannot be metabolised properly. Liver congestion is easy to diagnose based upon symptoms, tongue diagnoses and testing specific acupressure points. If your liver is congested it is like trying to clean a city with a broken down garbage truck. No matter what you do, garbage cannot be taken away fast enough and it piles up on the street (or in your body). Using herbal medicine and dietary changes, liver function can be improved and garbage (or toxins) can be removed from the cells of your body helping you to lose weight and regain energy. Even if you are eating a “healthy diet” this diet may not be correct for your body. If you eat foods that your body is sensitive too, it mounts an immune response which leads to inflammation, swelling and eventually chronic conditions such as leaky gut. By diagnosing food sensitivities through accurate and painless kinesiology, you can learn what foods are good for your body and avoid the ones which cause problems. Over time it is often possible to desensitise your body so you can reintroduce the foods you love. One of our clients lost a full dress size in under four weeks just by avoiding foods that she was sensitive to! There is no doubt that there is a mind body connection between your weight and your emotional well being. If you are depressed, don’t feel attractive or feel that you need protection, your body could manifest these emotions in the physical by putting on excess weight. Using kinesiology and spiritual healing you can discover the psycho emotional issues that affect your weight and clear them allowing your body to return to its optimal weight. In my years of practice it never ceases to amaze me just how much our spiritual selves (higher self or subconscious, if you prefer) affect our lives. If you are bored it is not unusual to turn to food as a way of relieving the boredom. You subconscious will also manifest (false) hunger in order to put off doing a difficult task (such as study) or to otherwise fill in time. Once you become aware of this pattern, it is possible to change your behaviour by taking up a hobby or making lifestyle change so you no longer feel the need to eat just to alleviate boredom. The reward and punishment centre of the brain (the amygdala) also plays a part in weight management. It remembers pleasant situations and tried to avoid unpleasant ones even when the reasons for doing so are well passed their use by date. If you remember (even subconsciously) sharing biscuits with your Nana your subconscious may desire biscuits to try to bring these good times back. Similarly if you were punished as a child for not finishing everything on your plate, your amygdala will get you to eat even if you are not hungry. Using kinesiology and spiritual healing we can find these subconscious triggers and gently release them so that your eating behaviour can return to a more healthy state. In Kabbalah, we are taught that the body has two souls; the higher spiritual soul and the lower animal (or ego) soul. It is often this lower soul which is responsible for over eating. Like an animal, it simply looks for instant gratification (for example chocolate cake) without worrying about the consequences. This animal soul does not respond well to abstract motivators such as the need to lose weight for health reasons but, in my experience, it does respond to more intense gratification. If you can convince your ego soul of the joy of being able to fit into nice clothes or the admiration you will get from your friends by being able to look slim, this animal soul can be turned around to actually help you lose weight. Using spiritual healing techniques it is possible to find a motivator that works for you and convince your animal soul to help you to lose weight.
